The Unconquered Land and the Eastern Tribes

Joshua 13

The Lord tells the aged Joshua that much land still remains to be possessed and directs him to divide it by lot among the nine and a half remaining tribes. The chapter then recounts the inheritance Moses had already assigned east of the Jordan to Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasse, noting that the tribe of Levi receives no territorial inheritance because the Lord himself is their portion.
