The Day of the Lord and the Call to Repent

Joel 2

Joel describes an overwhelming army advancing like fire across the land, darkening the sun, moon, and stars before it, as a sign of the great and terrible day of the Lord, and he calls the people to turn to the Lord with fasting, weeping, and rent hearts rather than torn garments, trusting in his mercy and compassion. The Lord answers by promising to remove the reproach of his people, drive away the invading army, and restore the grain, wine, and oil lost to the locusts, filling the land with abundance so that his people will know that he is the Lord their God and will never again be ashamed.
