Judas and Thamar

Genesis 38

Judas leaves his brothers, marries a Chananite woman, and has three sons, the first two of whom die for wickedness before they can raise up children by his daughter-in-law Thamar. When Judas fails to give her his youngest son as promised, Thamar disguises herself and conceives by Judas himself, and when her pregnancy is revealed she proves her innocence with tokens he had left her, bearing twin sons, Phares and Zara.
