Ezekiel 18

The Lord rejects the proverb that children bear punishment for their fathers' sins, declaring instead that each soul is judged for its own righteousness or wickedness, and that a wicked man who turns from sin will live while a righteous man who turns to sin will die. He calls the house of Israel to cast away their transgressions and make for themselves a new heart and a new spirit, since he takes no pleasure in the death of anyone.
