David's Last Words and Mighty Men
2 Samuel 23
This chapter records the last words of David, who says the Spirit of the Lord spoke through him of an everlasting covenant with his house and of a just ruler shining like the morning light, followed by a warning that the wicked will be consumed like thorns in fire. It then names David's mighty men, recounting the exploits of the three who broke through the Philistine camp to bring him water from the well at Bethlehem, the deeds of Abessa and Banæas, and a roster of thirty-seven warriors in all.
