1 Kings 12
Roboam rejects the counsel of the elders and answers the people harshly, causing ten tribes to reject the house of David and make Jeroboam king, while Jeroboam, fearing the people's loyalty to Jerusalem, sets up golden calves at Bæthel and Dan and appoints his own priests and feasts; the chapter also tells how Jeroboam's sick son dies as the prophet Achia had foretold.

He had built the citadel with the burdens of the house of Ephraim, and enclosed the city of David, and was aspiring to the kingdom. Upon which Solomon sought to put him to death, and he was terrified and fled to Sousakim king of Egypt, and was with him till Solomon died.
