The Lamp and the Blasphemer
Leviticus 24
The Lord commands that pure oil be kept burning continually in the lamp before him and that twelve loaves of showbread be set out each sabbath for Aaron and his sons to eat in the holy place. A man who cursed the Name during a quarrel is brought before Moses and, at the Lord's command, stoned outside the camp, and this leads to the giving of laws requiring the same judgment for stranger and native alike, including life for life and eye for eye.
