The Call of Gideon

Judges 6

After Israel is oppressed by Midian, an angel of the Lord appears to Gideon threshing wheat in hiding and calls him to save Israel, confirming the call with fire consuming an offering on a rock. Gideon tears down his father's altar of Baal by night, is renamed Jerubbaal, and twice tests the Lord's promise of victory with a fleece of wool, once wet and once dry.
