The Unfaithful Wife

Hosea 2

Israel is pictured as an unfaithful wife who has chased after lovers and forgotten that it was the Lord who gave her corn, wine, oil, and silver, and so the Lord strips away her comforts and exposes her unfaithfulness. The chapter turns to a promise of restoration, in which the Lord will betroth her to himself forever in righteousness, judgment, mercy, and faithfulness, and those once called Not My People will be called My People.
