Genesis 30
Rachel, envious of Lea, gives Jacob her maid Balla to bear children in her place, and Lea likewise gives her maid Zelpha, so that Jacob's household grows through both wives and their handmaids until Rachel herself bears a son, Joseph. Jacob then strikes a bargain with Laban over speckled and spotted flocks and, using peeled rods at the watering troughs, grows very wealthy in cattle.
